Elena Rato at Furiosa Gallery.
Solo Show: “Sometimes the canvas is not enough”
The title is her manifesto, nothing strange in an artist like Elena Rato, always working and experimenting with new possibilities of painting. Involved in other areas of art such as performance and printmaking, her pictorial work has been permeated by these disciplines, always evident in a process of creation that moves between action painting and the multiple possibilities offered by the digital world. From the graphic procedures he takes the multiplicity of the image under the challenge of reproducing it exclusively with pictorial techniques, as we warned in “Seriation of the difference”, works in which, on canvas of the same format, he reproduces the same technical and formal procedure. In these proposals is the origin of “Double seriation of the previous gesture”, diptych present in this exhibition, in which he addresses the challenge of duplicating the pictorial gesture, a complex challenge of which the author is aware. A blurred figurative substratum is intuited, a layered procedure that shows the importance given to the different moments of creation. The stain, which acquires connotations in his painting that transcend the merely formal to the personal and psychological, is delimited, contained in his natural effort to expand. The energy he gives off is enhanced by his duplicity and by a tense balance, between organic and rational, which has led him to define his painting as “contained expression”.
Elena Rato, is in Madrid from January 24 to March 12 at Furiosa Gallery, in turn, will participate in Art Madrid and Urvanity Art in its 2020 editions.
